Global news agency AFP has launched the 2018 Kate Webb Prize for Asian journalists doing exceptional work in difficult or dangerous conditions in the region.
Freelance photographer Farshad Usyan, from Mazar-i-Sharif in northern Afghanistan, has won the first edition of the Shah Marai Award for his series of 15 photos of his compatriots' daily lives, which vividly capture their desire to live freely and express themselves as they wish.

The 31st edition of the international photojournalism festival Visa pour l’Image takes place from august 31 to September 15, 2019 in Perpignan, with exhibitions of works by AFP photographers Guillermo Arias and Ed Jones at the Couvent des Minimes.
AFP, along with other international media, has joined a BBC initiative to collectively define shared principles for collaborative action to fight misinformation. Photographer Guillermo Arias has won the Visa d'or News award, the highest prize given at the "Visa pour l'Image" festival. The 31st occasion of the world's leading photojournalism event came to its conclusion in Perpignan on saturday. The prize recognise Guillermo Arias's work which focuses on the migrant caravans in Central America.
